Why A Rose Has Thorns

BY Jennifer

One day Zeus and Athena went for a walk in the woods, when they came across the prettiest rose in the world. Zeus picked it up and gave it to Athena. She was so excited, and said," I promise I will never lose the rose, and if I do may all the roses in the world have thorns." They will hurt people, as she would be if she lost the rose.

Zeus granted her promise. One day Athena had the rose in her hair while she went walking through the woods. The wind was very strong that day so the rose blew out of her hair and into the mud. Just then an older man was walking through the woods and stepped on the rose. When he stepped on it, it smashed into pieces. Athena was so sad she ran home and went up to her room and cried. Finally she fell asleep. When she woke up the next morning everything seemed normal. After breakfast she went for a walk in the woods. When she picked up a rose, she was pricked by something. At a closer look she realized the beautiful rose had pricked her finger, and she screamed. She felt so bad because she was the reason all the roses, that once were so beautiful, now have thorns.
