The Seven Seas

By Alan

In a long, long time ago, there were no seas. There were only lakes that were made by rain. Humans drank juices made from plants, fruits, and water. The seven seas that we have today were huge ditches with melted sand, rocks, and boulders. There was also a great amount of heat coming up that would burn anything when it fell below 300 feet deep. No one knows what that heat was caused by, but they do know that they had to do something about it. The people didn't know what to do, because not even rain or snow could stop the amount of heat. People tried to dig canals from the lakes to use the water to stop it, but all they got was steam.

At Mount Olympus, the gods were also bothered by the heat. Almost everyone complained about the heat. Apollo didn't really mind, because he is the god of the sun. All the gods told Apollo to try to capture the fire and put it in the sun, but even Apollo couldn't do that. Then they went to ask Athena, the goddess of wisdom, for a solution, but even she couldn't find an answer to solve the problem. Now, they really didn't know who to turn to.

About every year around July, the river of melted sand, rocks, and boulders will shoot many huge fireballs at random direction which destroy cities, statues, temples, and useable land. Thousand of lives were lost every July. The fireballs could even go higher that Mount Olympus. That is the period when the gods have to work the hardest. They had to protect Mount Olympus from any fireballs that got up that high, and reflect as many fireballs as they can to get the minimum amount of damage.

One day in June the river of fire was beginning to heat up quickly. Zeus's daughter was playing in the grassland. The grassland was filled with so many flower that it was hard to see the ground. Then she saw a beautiful flowers which was on the very tip of a branch that extend seven feet past a cliff. While she was trying to get the flower, there was a minor earthquake and she fell into the river of fire.

Hermes saw her falling into the fire, but he wasn't quick enough to do anything. He gathered all the gods and went to Zeus' home and told him about what happened. At first Zeus was very mad and the sky was thundering all day and night. Then after everyone left, he was crying very hard and rain began to come down quickly. He cried day and night without stopping. July came and fireballs started to shoot up. This time, most of the gods didn't have to do anything, because every time a fireball would shoot past the surface, a lightning bolt would quickly strike it and destroy it. Zeus had been crying for at last three months, and all his salty tears he poured down to the Earth had stopped the river of fire forever, and filled up the ditches to be the seven seas. When Zeus found out that the fire had been put out, he was beginning to lighten up. Hades had made an exception and gave Zeus' daughter back to him. There is no river of fire now, but there are the seven seas.
