CHANGING FORMS

BY Caress

Before there were humans, the earth was peaceful, pollution-free, and there were

more homes for the animals. All of the animals were pleased with their lives. All of

them except for one that is. He wasn't satisfied with his life and felt so ordinary. He

wished more than anything to be unique. This ordinary animal was the golden giraffe.

One day, Mr. Giraffe was walking through the forest being as jolly as can be. He

was not known for this particular behavior though. He was usually known as one of

those grumpy people who woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

He then came upon Mr. Leopard who was hunting for his young.

" Why have a good day! " he exclaimed. Mr. Leopard looked up at short and stubby

Mr. Giraffe. Mr. Leopard growled as if it was supposed to be a smile, which it was

supposed to be. Mr. giraffe walked on being pleased with himself for being so polite and cheerful.

Next, Mr. Giraffe noticed Ms. Mole's burrow so far away. He thought he'd stop

by to say hi. Mr. Giraffe glanced up at the sky to notice the fierce orange sun streaking

across the clear blue sky. He was so busy staring up at the sky that he didn't notice the

root sticking out of the ground near Ms. Mole's burrow. Mr. Giraffe kept on walking

and landed with only his head ending up in Ms. Mole's burrow. The rest of his body was sticking out in the air.

" Well, since my mouth is in here, I guess I can say hello," he thought. " Hello! Ms. Mole, it's me, Mr. Giraffe."

Ms. Mole awoke from her nap startled. " Mr. Giraffe, what are you doing here?" she asked.

"I am stuck in the entrance of your burrow. Please help me," he pleaded.

Ms. Mole pulled his ears, his nose, and his neck, stretching out each one of them.

"I'm sorry, but I am too weak to pull you out. You need someone stronger than I," Ms. Mole said.

Up on Mt. Olympus, Zeus saw what was happening.

"Artemis," he roared.

"Yes, father," she replied.

"Would you please help that poor animal?" he asked.

So Artemis went to Mr. Giraffe and pulled and pulled. Mr. Giraffe then came

out wihl longer ears, a longer nose, and an extremely long neck. He wasn't different in

personality, but he sure was in appearance. He was finally unique.
