Introduction
Harry the Hamster is bored! He wants an adventure! BUT... he doesn't know how to begin. What if you could help Harry decide where to go and what to do?
During his quest for adventure, he will encounter the four types of character conflicts, and YOU will guide him through his decision-making process.
Most authors draw from their own experiences and use research to enhance their stories. You will take a trip with Harry, then complete his story by writing your own adventure.
As you conduct research to guide Harry through his adventure, capture your ideas for your own story by recording them in a notebook. Each time you see this...
get your notebooks out! You will discover how access to resources on the web can help in making important decisions and solving problems-- even for a hamster!
Will Harry survive...?
Harry the Hamster has led a full life-- eating, sleeping, stuffing his chubby cheeks with whatever he can find in his cage, and, of course, running on his wheel. But, now Harry is bored. After all, how long can one run around on a wheel?!? He is yearning to go somewhere exciting and see new sights.
Because Harry's parents, Henry and Henrietta, read many books to Harry when he was growing up, he is well aware of the four major conflicts: Man vs. Self, Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Other, and Man vs. Society. You and Harry will experience these conflicts as you create your journey together.
You will research various Web resources to find adventurous places to visit, necessary survival skills, and solutions to problems. Help Harry finish his story! You will complete Harry's adventure by writing your own Adventure/Survival story. Each time you gather data, remember to record your information and ideas in your notebook.
Your first problem is...
Where To Go?
Harry's first conflict is with himself. Where should he go for his adventure? Do you think he would like an arctic or tropical climate? Click on all of the links below to research places in both climates, then use your information to send Harry on his way for the adventure of a lifetime!
