Teacher Information Page

This iAdventure is targeted for second, third, and fourth grade. The primary focus is the science subject of weather. The adventure will take anywhere from two to four weeks to thoroughly complete. This adventure addresses most of the state curriculum guidelines for weather as well as the Warrensburg School District weather curriculum for third grade. This adventure is easily adapted to second grade as an introduction to weather and to fourth grade and above as a fun way to review. You will need to print out a copy of the student worksheet and the student rubric to copy for each student.

Background Information

This iAdventure was created to provide a fun and interesting way for students to explore the science topic of weather using a variety of resources. During this adventure students will be addressing key topics in weather. These are the water cycle, seasons, atmosphere, matter (briefly), weather maps, jet stream, high and low pressure systems, warm and cold fronts, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, and thunderstorms. The last four on the previous list will also provide and in depth study of one depending on the choices the student makes. When completed the student will have all information needed to put together a weather report as their final activity. This is an extremely self guided adventure with little input from the teacher required except to keep students working. The two main characters in this adventure are Holly and Jack. These characters provide the basis of the story line in which the children will investigate the topic of weather. It is made to be entertaining as well as educational for the student.

Creating Conclusions and Student Products

The conclusion of this project is a weather report created by the student. The report is to be a five day report with an additional report on the past 48 hours which will be the specific storm they researched. These reports would be great class presentations so that the other students can see what another student gained from the adventure. Other than a little guidance these reports should be done by each individual student.
