A Few Good Students Are Needed

The United States of America needs you for a very important task. You have been asked to use your creativity to design the next stamp for your country. You will leave your mark and go down in history if you help the U.S. solve this problem.

Replacing The Stolen Stamp File

Today, like all other days, you and your classmates are anxiously awaiting one of the best times of the day---recess. As everyone is lining up to go out, your teacher is met at the door by a strange man in a blue postal uniform. He is delivering a collection of certified letters to your class from the Post Master General. Everyone quietly gathers around your teacher as she reveal the first of four letters.

You and your classmates are aware of the urgency of this situation. Everyone willingly gives up their recess to serve their country in this time of need. Tension is in the air as you and your classmates watch the teacher cautiously open the second letter. She scans it and projects it on the board for everyone to read.

Scientist or Historical Figure - Who Should You Choose?

Dilemma! Dilemma! Dilemma! By the time you and your classmates finish reading the letter, your teacher locates the sites listed below to help you make an informed decision. Your teacher explains that you must decide who will be represented on the next stamp, and that your country needs you to conduct research on the importance of scientists and historical figures to our country. She feels confident that these sites will help you decide whether or not you feel a scientist or a historical figure should be represented. Remember to fill out the Information Collection Sheet to report your findings.
