Well, you are back from your research trip. I hope you enjoyed the time you spent with the Native Americans. I am sure you learned quite a bit about their lives. Itís amazing how people can survive off the land entirely.
The Winchesters would like for you to make a model of one of the tribal villages you visited. They will be putting it on display in the museum in London so many Europeans will be able to know more about these natives. Most Europeans think the natives are out to kill all new residents of the New World. Your aunt and uncle want to show them the natives are humans just as they are.
In your village, you will need to show the environment of your tribe. Did they live near rivers, mountains, or deserts? Show what type of home they lived in.
How did they get their food? Did they hunt, fish, grow crops, or gather wild vegetation? Show the food they ate and how they got it.
How did your tribe travel from place to place for hunting or moving? Did they have boats, pack animals, wagons, or did they always walk? What kind of clothes did your tribe wear? What were they made of ?
Show all of these things in your village, and any other information you researched while visiting your tribe. Since this will be traveling across the ocean to go in the museum, it needs to be well made so it wonít fall apart on the voyage. Use whatever materials you can find to make the village seem realistic. (Remember plastic wasnít around in 1716. Paper, wood, cloth, and plants were around.)
There is not a lot of room on the ship, so donít make it any larger than 24 inches wide or long. If it is too small the visitors to the museum wonít be able to see it very well, so donít make it any smaller than 14 inches wide or long.
Iím sure the people in London will really appreciate all your hard work. Maybe your parents will even take you to visit the museum once your work is on display. Thanks for your time and efforts.
Assessment Below is the scoring guide that will be used to grade your work. You will want all of your scores to be in the exemplary column, so look over the criteria so you know what I will expect. On the due date for your visual project, you will share the information about your tribe with 3 other classmates, and they will share their information with you.
