Teacher Information Page

This iAdventure was written as an end-of-the-year project for 6th grade reading students. It is a review of story elements and creative writing techniques. The students could take their completed storybooks to the lower grade levels and share them. This iAdventure could be completed in approximately 90 minutes of computer time, in addition to however many class periods are needed to complete the final book.

Steps to completing your own storybook

Scoring Rubric

As the students work through the iAdventure, they should complete this printable datasheet. When your students have completed the iAdventure, I have provided a story outline to help with planning their storyline, considering all the necessary elements.

Background Information

I created this iAdventure to help my students through the process of writing Children's Literature. After reading many different genres of novels in class and repeatedly discussing the story elements in each, I wanted the students to transfer this knowledge to write a storybook to share with elementary students. I will use their final product as an authentic assessment of many 6th grade reading objectives.

Assessment

I created the following simple rubric to score the students' final products.

Acknowledgements

I would like to thank Stan Smith who taught me all I know about creating web pages and iAdventures. He is a vast resource and we are extremely lucky to have him at our disposal.

I would also like to thank the other students in my class. They kept me on my toes and taught me many things, many of which have to do with snakes.

The iAdventure concept was developed in the Warrensburg, MO school district, as part of the "Learning with iAdventures" program. This program was funded by a Competitive Technology grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
