This iadventure site is designed to help your students make decisions, do research, and final possible solutions to problems. In this particular case, there is a serious declination in the frog populations as well as an increase in incidents of mal-formed frogs. Your students have to decide what direction they will take in order to solve the problem. Besides writing down data, the student must be able to use the gathered information to compose a letter to a congressman to ask that he/she do something about the problem and offer possible solutions. They will also create a petition to be signed by students in the whole school.
Before you assign your students to any iadventure, be sure that you have at least skimmed through the site yourself so you have some idea of what it's about!
IMPORTANT POINTERS
- Make sure your students print out all necessary data sheets and save these to turn in along with their final product.
- Demonstrate how to use this website to your class before letting try on their own.
- I suggest that students work in pairs or groups rather than on their own.
- This site was designed for 5th and 6th graders but can be used by older students as well.
- Your students will need at least 3 to 6 hours of computer time depending on the choices they make and the extra activities that they get involved in. Plan on making this at least a two week activity.
The site mape below can help give you a general over-view of this iadventure.
Background Information Your students will be making decisions that will guide their character, Sylvia Frogsblatter (herpetologist) to different sites to gather information needed to convince certain congresspersons that something needs to be done about the problems they are discovering. Frogs and other amphibians are very good indicators of change in our Eco-system. The research that your students will be guiding Sylvia through will show them that there are several different sources that are affecting our environment. What can be done by the government to stop the destruction of our world? What can we do as individuals? Hopefully, your students will be able to answer these questions when they have finished their iadventure!
Resources Needed Students will need to use a computer with interenet access, a printer, pencil and notebook to begin the journey.
