Southern Lifestyles
Warm breezes blow across the veranda of the plantation home. The smell of the magnolia tree reaches you as the spanish moss softly moves through the branches. Cool lemonade and cookies sit on the table. The ladies are doing embroidery. The men are out riding the fields with the overseer to see how much the slaves have planted on the south 40. The scene is idylic. But behind the scenes the house slaves are busy fixing dinner, dusting and sweeping the kitchen. The male slaves are working the fields, long hard days of labor. You and Jesse hear voices and want to find out if this is the way everyone lives in the South.

http://www.worcesterfamily.com/misc1011.htmNow that you know something about the area, the Civil War and the Underground Railroad where can you be of the most help. Decide now which task you will choose. If you become a host- you will be someone who shelters and feeds the slaves as they pass through your area. If you become a conductor - (someone like Harriett) who escorts the slaves along the route you will choose and lead them to safety.
