You are desperately needed to help Simone' Smith, storyteller extraordinaire, rewrite a fairy tale or tall tale using a new twist to an old story. One that you may have heard many times before. Simone' plans to present these enchanted and amazing stories to the student body of Sterling Silver Elementary. The guidelines and ideas you use for this adventure into the realm of fantasy will be shared throughout this iAdventure. An iAdventure is an interactive learning experience that allows you, the student, to participate along with the character to solve a dilemma. Take hold of your magic wand and let's begin!

 

Simone's Dilemma

Simone' Smith, world famous storyteller, has been asked to share her special talent with the students of Sterling Silver Elementary School but there is a serious problem... Simone' must share a fairy tale or tall tale, but these are not her specialities. Because of the pickle she is in Simone' is beginning to panic. She is desperate for help! You and a partner have volunteered to write a story for her. Using your wit and ingenuity you decide to add a new twist to a tall tale or fable. You know the students of Sterling Silver will roll with laughter and delight upon hearing your newly created version! Before you start to write this tantalizing tale you first decide to research the role of a storyteller. This should help you learn about the characteristics needed to write an effective story. Fairy Tale or Tall Tale?

You and your partner are overwhelmed with this task after you so eagerly offered your services. The role of a storyteller is more involved than you ever imagined. You both thought a storyteller just stood up and told the story. Through your research you have discovered that the words used to write these stories are like colors used by an artist to paint a picture. Your story must include simple, colorful language. It should help the listener see, hear, smell, taste, and feel what's going on. Nerves start to fray! You begin to argue and fret about how you should begin. In order to establish peace the two of you must begin to narrow down your choices between two types of stories. Using the data collection sheet provided, you must chose one of these: fairy tale or tall tale? Which will it be? Be sure to read all prompts and directions as you go on this venture. Investigate all websites that are available to help you make your decisions. These sites have been selected just for you! To begin this task you first need to discover the differences in how tall tales and fairy tales are written.
