Information for teachers

The purpose of this iAdventure is to expose the fourth graders to information about basketball and volleyball. Upon completing the iAdventure students will be able to tell different fundamentals and rules of the sport they choose to research. The students will go more indepth and spend lots of time becoming familiar with the sports. When this is completed the students should have a better knowledge of these lifetime fitness sports.

Background Information

An Iadventure is a way of teaching students important concepts and skills by involving them in a story line with one or more characters (real or fictional).  Jimmy needs the students help in deciding what type of sport he should research.  Should Jimmy researchbasketball or Volleyball? Should Jimmy learn the fundamentals or rules?  Your students will help him to decide by visiting a variety of web sites and learning about information pertaining to basketball, volleyball and the rules and fundamentals of both basketball and volleyball.

Curriculum Standards

This Iadventure adresses the following curriculum standards

GOAL 1:
2. conduct research to answer questions and evaluate information and ideas
8. organize data, information and ideas into useful forms (including charts, graphs, outlines) for analysis or presentation

GOAL 2:
1. plan and make written, oral and visual presentations for a variety of purposes and audiences
3. exchange information, questions and ideas while recognizing the perspectives of others

GOAL 3:
5. reason inductively from a set of specific facts and deductively from general premises

GOAL 4:
1. explain reasoning and identify information used to support decisions
6. identify tasks that require a coordinated effort and work with others to complete those tasks
7. identify and apply practices that preserve and enhance the safety and health of self and others

    Paper on the Iadventure 50%
        - Grammar and spelling 25%
        - Information presented is information learned from the Iadventure. 25%
    Presentation of Iadventure in class 50%
        - Information given to class gives valuable information. 25%
        - Showing your classmates how to do some of what you learned by demonstration and helping them. 25%
