What is an iAdventure?
"An iAdventure is a problem-solving activity in which students determine the direction and outcome of a content-rich storyline, using resources available on the Internet, particularly resources providing real-world data and primary documents. The activity is designed to help students discover how the characters could use access to unlimited data and information (the Internet) to solve problems and make choices."

"As students work their way through the story-line, they are faced with a series of dilemmas, in which choices must be made. At these points, the teacher has provided links to Internet sites with real-world data and "primary" documents. Students visit these sites, collect data and read various documents. After analyzing the information, they make an informed decision about the next course of action for their character. The outcome of the iAdventure is open-ended, created by the students themselves."

A Brief Summary of “Samual’s Mural Mayhem”

The main character of this iAdventure is Samual, an artist that works for Sunnytown Art Museum. student. Samual is commissioned to create a mural for a new exhibit at the local Children’s Museum titled “Animals in Art”.   Samual’s job is to create his mural in the style of a 20th century artist from either France or Germany.  It is the students’ job to help Samual in learning as much as he can in order to create his final mural. Their first task is to choose between France or Germany to look for their artist.  They will then be able to choose between two distinct styles of work from each country: Expressionism and The Blue Rider Group from Germany, and Impressionism and Surrealism from France.
Once they have decided on a movement they will then be able to select either an artist from that movement and then create a mural of their own following the guidelines that Samual was given by the Children’s Museum.
This iAdventure is designed to be completed by groups of 2-3 students.

Conclusion / Student Product
The final product, a mural created by groups of 2-3 students, consists of the students selecting an artist and creating a mural in the style of that artist for the Children’s Museum.  Each group will have a chance to present their mural to the class, explaining which movement and artist they chose and why.  They must also be able to identify why their particular artist is different that others of the same movement.  Along with the mural, each group must come up with a one page minimum biography of the artist they chose and present that along with their mural.
It would be a good idea to have an example available for students to examine while emphasizing creativity.
