Introduction:

This interior design iAdventure was designed to help students learn about and apply design techniques through internet research. As students navigate through the adventure they will reseach various design elements and styles. After deciding upon their design style they will have to design a room of their choice while keeping within their budget and wishes of their client and create a final display board to help sell their design. This iAdventure was created for grades 9-12 and can be used in Interior Design (F.A.C.S.) or Art classes. Before beginning please consider the following:
iAdventures are designed to provide students with real situations that, through research, allows them to decide on what they believe to be the best course of action and reach their own conclusions. To learn more about iAdventures visit the iAdventure homepage.

Background Information:

This iAdventure deals with Interior Design, specifically elements & principles of design and creating room layouts. Students should have a basic knowledge of these concepts before beginning. Additionally students will need to know basic math skills (adding & subtracting) in order to create and maintain a budget. Students will also need to be able to manipulate computer programs designed to create room layouts.
The opening story puts the students themselves in the story. They have just landed their first job and a local design studio and must help their client decide between traditional or contemporary designs. Once they've decided on a design styles, students will need to select a room to design for their client. The catch? The clients have specific requests and a limited amount of money. After searching multiple websites to find the perfect furniture & accessories students will need to create a display board to present to their clients. Final presentations could be given to classmates or you could invite some local designers in and have your students present to them. Another suggestion is to have a showing of their projects after school hours and invite the community in to see what they've created.
