My nickname is "Ramona the
Brave." I am 13 years old and I love reading Beverly Cleary's
books and exploring. Social Studies is my favorite subject
because I like learning about new cultures. So,
you want to go on an adventure...you wish
it was that easy huh?
My Dilemma
My father is a sociologist and
he has decided that my mother
and I will travel with him on one of his expeditions. He thinks I
should learn about another culture living with a tribe from
Africa or South America. My dilemma is
that when I studied South America in class I was very
interested.I think that I know about the
culture, nature, and geography of the area even though it was all
in my class.I have always wanted to go
there, but never expected the
chance to come this soon.Africa sounds
like somewhere I would like to visit too. My
father has been both places and he will not help me decide, but has
come up with a great idea. Daddy loves Jeopardy and since we
often play it at school he suggests that we play it now to decide where
we will go. You wanna help me?
Jeopardy
Jeopardy is one of my favorite
games to play at school when we study for tests. We are going to
play by the same rules that we play by in class, but there will be a
surprise twist. I will be on Team A and you are on Team B.
My father will ask us questions about Africa and South America.
Just like the real game show whoever hits the buzzer first gets to
answer and if you answer wrong the other team gets a chance.
Sound easy enough right?
Here comes the twist...at any time
when the buzzer is hit you can randomly end up in either Africa or
South America without any warning. This is why it is very
important to do your research so that you are prepared when you get
there no matter how you end up in either country. Of course, as
long as you're still here you must continue to answer questions about
each country and the person who answers the most correct questions gets
to choose where my family and I will go for a year. You never
know I might even ask if you can come along. Trust
me we are going to have so much fun!
The first thing you need to do is
click on the research worksheet link
so that after you have visited the information sites listed below you
can answer the questions. Print the worksheet and take good notes
so that you can decide which
country to choose (whether it's by winning the game or suddenly
arriving there) and have your research available for your final
project.
