Justin's Healthy Teeth
Teacher Information Page
Introduction

The Healthy Teeth iAdventure will provide children with the opportunity to research and learn new information about different good dental hygiene.  Here are some important considerations before beginning the Healthy Teeth iAdventure:
  • Intended for 2nd and 3rd graders
  • Focuses on good dental hygiene
  • Lesson length will take 7 days to complete
  • Could be a teacher guided lesson
  • Could be a group lesson
  • Could be an individual learning activity

The Healthy Teeth iAdventure would be best as an independent learning activity if the child is familiar with navigating through web pages.  It is intended for emergent or fluent readers.  I also think this would be beneficial as a partner learning activity or whole group shared lesson.

Here is a site map of the iAdventure.  It has links to each page for you to preview all of the pages in an organized way.  Every page has a button link back to the home page.  When internet links are clicked, it will open a new window for the child to explore.  When the child is finished with the internet link, just click the X at the top right.  The child will return to the previous iAdventure page.

The opening story page will give the child two choices of scenarios.  The next  page will also give the child two choices.  For the pages that are on the 4th row, the child will have internet links to research the dental hygiene practices to choose.  On the conclusion page, the child will have several ways to complete the research.

Background Information

Prior to beginning the iAdventure on Healthy Teeth teachers may find it helpful to begin a discussion with their class about good dental health.  The teacher will need to arrange a classroom experiment with large baby food jars, 6 various liquids including vinegar and Coke, cleaned chicken bones and enough hard boiled eggs for each student.  The teacher may want to review the following before the iAdventure:

The Healthy Teeth iAdventure will ask the students to make choices regarding the importance of taking care of their teeth.
The students will learn about the consequences of poor dental hygiene and good dental hygiene.
