| This
student iAdventure project will have students design a computer.
The students will build a computer for a client. As the students
complete the research and answer the questions assigned in each phase of
the iAdventure, they will gain a basic understanding of the software and
hardware that makes up a computer.
Through this active learning and authentic approach, the students will be able to apply prior and researched knowledge to design and build a computer. Once students have researched and developed a plan, they will work cooperatively to perform an active learning activity where they will build a computer. Through the process of designing and building a computer, students will learn the following: 1. Students will learn how to use a computer and various forms of software. 2. Students will learn how a computer works. 3. Students will learn about the hardware and software of a computer. 4. Students will learn the function of the hardware and software that make up a computer. 5. Student will learn the processes involved in designing and building a computer. 6. Students will learn how to use the Internet to research and gather information. 7. Students will learn how to research and record data for later use. The following is a list of “meaningful learning” or “real world learning” that the student received from the project: 1. Students will learn how to use a computer and various forms of software. 2. Students will learn about the hardware and software that make up a computer. 3. Students will learn how to design and build a computer. 4. Students will learn how to use the Internet to gather information. 5. Students will learn how to make the computer and the Internet work for them. 6. Student will learn how to prepare and plan a major project. 7. Students will build a multimedia or gaming computer. |
| Goal 1:2 Conduct research
to answer questions and evaluate
information and ideas. Goal 1:4 Use technological tools and other resources to locate, select and organize information. Goal 1:5 Comprehend and evaluate written, visual and oral presentations and works. Goal 1:7 Evaluate the accuracy of information and the reliability of its sources. Goal 1:8 organize data, information and ideas into useful forms. (including charts, graphs, outlines) for analysis or presentation. Goal 2:7 Use technological tools to exchange information and ideas. Goal 3:1 Identify problems and define their scope and elements. Goal 3:2 Develop and apply strategies based on ways others have prevented or solved problems. Goal 4:1 Explain reasoning and identify information used to support decisions. |
