Meet Jason.  Jason is a marketing department employee here at Travel America.  He is one of the many employees who has been given a huge opportunity.  Ms. Big Wig, the president of our company, has started a contest to see who can create the best brochures for our travel agents to show our customers.  Here is the memo that Ms. Big Wig sent out to the marketing department employees.

Subject: Brochure Contest

Today's Date

I am announcing a brochure contest.  I want each of you to design three brochures, each showcasing different destinations, that our travel agents can show to our customers.  These destinations must have a romantic quality, must be able to be done in one two-week vacation, and must be on a low budget but with quality accommodations and transportation.

In order for you to be able to create authentic brochures, you will actually be going on this vacation, taking your spouse with you (If you do not have a spouse, take a significant other or friend.  Since we are showcasing these vacations to couples, two people must take the trip.). Your vacations will start one month from today.  Here are the specific details you must follow:

  • Each of you will draw two states from a hat and then pick one of those states to visit first.
  • Which one city in each state you visit will be up to you.
  • Once you have decided which state and city to go to, you must then arrange your flight to your destination. (All transportation between destinations will be by air, however your return travel back to Kansas City after your third destination may be by car rental if that destination is close enough not to require a flight ; i.e. Kansas.)
  • Next you will arrange your accommodations for your first destination.
  • At your first destination, you must pick at least one attraction to visit per day and at least three restaurants per day, one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • You will make a travel log detailing what airline you took, where you are staying, which attractions you visit, where you eat, and how much everything costs.
You will draw your second and third destinations at a later time, before your vacations start. So start arranging and researching where you will go now.  Also, while you are there, do not forget to take pictures to use on your brochures.

Ms. Big Wig
President

P.S. By the way, these vacations are on the company's dime (with the exception of extra spending such as souvenirs, etc.), so whoever spends the least amount of money, but still has a quality vacation, will receive a bonus!  A bonus will also be awarded to the employee with the best brochures.

Wow!  What an opportunity for Jason!  His wife Courtney will be so excited to take a vacation, especially one the company is paying for!

Jason has went to the conference room and drawn his two states to start out his trip.  He has drawn Arizona and New Mexico.  Jason has heard so many good things about each state and is having a hard time deciding which state to choose.  He needs your help.

Research, with the help of the links below, what there is to do in each state and how much transportation and accommodations will cost. Don't forget about the restaurants.

Click this link for a question sheet to fill out in order to help Jason decide where he is going first.  You will need to print out two, one for each state.

*You will need to have Jason and Courtney rent a car if you have them visit a city that does not have an airport.  They need to have a car to that city and from that city back to the airport.
