*What
is an iAdventure?*
An
iAdventure consists of several dilemmas that involve research and decision
making. Each situation builds on the previous decision. The primary focus
of an iAdventure is to obtain research from primary documents and real
data in order to develop problem solving skills.
*Content,
Grade Level, and Time Required*
This
iAdventure focuses on making decisions. The grade level centers around
grades sixth, seventh, and eighth. Students will be working independently
while completing the iAdventure. The iAdventure should be completed in
approximately three to four fifty minute class periods. Remember,
one must leave plenty of time for the students to complete their research
and prepare their final projects.

*Background
Information*
The
character in this iAdventure is named Lizzie, and she is an eighth grade
student. Lizzie will face many problems that middle school students deal
with such as peer pressure. The students completing the iAdventure will
be helping Lizzie overcome each of the three dilemmas she is faced with.
After completing this iAdventure, the students will know how to evaluate
and change poor decisions and know what is important to them so they can
set goals. The students will also know effective ways of communicating
their feelings and thoughts and know that they should talk to someone when
they feel the need. The students will also know that it's ok to say “no”
when friends or other people try to get them to drink or smoke cigarettes.
They will also know the effects that drinking and smoking can have on their
bodies and minds. Once the iAdventure is completed, the students will be
able to make the best decisions that suit their needs.

*Final
Product*
After
completing the iAdventure independently, students will then get to work
in groups of four or five. Each member in the group will discuss the decisions
he/she made during the iAdventure. Each member will then talk about whether
or not he/she made the best decisions for Lizzie. The members will
now get a chance to go back through the iAdventure and make decisions together.
Once everyone is in agreement, they can now start working on their final
products. Each group will make a three to five minute video discussing
in depth the decisions they made for Lizzie. While doing so, the
students will explain why they made the decisions they did. The explanations
will prove that the students know how to make good decisions. In order
for the students to present their videos to an audience, the teacher can
request a parents' night.
*Resources
Needed*
The
students will need to have access to the internet. When the time comes
for the students to work in groups, they will need to be provided with
a video camera and a tape.
