Nick's Notes on the First Land Plants

Nick Warner

The first real land plants appeared about 400 million years ago. Their ancestors were the Algaes. The first land plants were ferns, club mosses and horsentails. Most of these plants had no roots and were not very strong. They did not have flowers. They only had spores.

Cooksania was one of the first land plants. It was wax covered to reduce moisture loss.
