I did a report on the western hognose snake and I am here to tell you about it. The scientific name is Heterodon nasicus It is found in a range from Minnesota to Texas. Its habitat is mainly prairies and abandoned farmland.
Food in the wild is a range from small mice to frogs, toads, and small lizards. In the wild hawks, bigger snakes, and other birds of prey can eat this small western hognose snake. Also in the wild the western hognose snake will roll over and play dead for its predators.

"The Western Hognose snake is checking the things out"
It produces eggs every other year and it can lay 4-23 eggs. The western hognose snake lives alone and when it lays its eggs it doesn't stick around to see them hatch.
The classroom habitat is a ten gallon aquarium with a sliding top. The bottom should be covered with newspaper, gravel, or crushed bark chips. There should also be a hiding box in the aquarium and the temperature should be from 70-80 degrees. Room light is fine and the humidity shouldn't be too high. Food in the classroom is small mice.
Some interesting things that I found out aboutare: when the western hognose snake drinks, its cheeks flare out; it is 5 cm long and weighs 47.5 grams. I hope you have learned more about the western hognose snake.
