The Rat
The rats' habitat and geographic range is the entire world. Its origin was Asia and it traveled to other places in the world by ships.
In the classroom it lives in glass cages so that they wont gnaw through them. They have a wheel in the cage that provides them exercise. They eat dry dog food and drink water, this of course is just in the class room.
In the wild however, they will eat everything and anything that they can get their hands on. They will drink anything too. In the wild the predators that will eat it are birds of prey and sometimes even other rats if the need should be there.
The average rat will live anywhere from one thousand to two thousand days. They sometimes will live in groups or they can live alone.
It cares for its young and feeds them milk. It has live young and its gestation period is twenty-one to twenty-four days.
Did you know that in the 14th century black rats were responsible for the death of 25 million because they carried the fleas that carried the black plague? There was also a legend of the Pied Piper who made the rats leave a city by playing his pipe.
