Ring-Neck Dove

This is our ring-neck dove.

 

The kingdom of the dove is animal and the phylum is Chordates. The dove is in class Aves. The order and the family is: Passiformes and Pigeons. The dove's scientific name is Streptopelia risoria.

The dove lives in parks, gardens, nests, trees, shrubs and on rooftops. It lives in northwest Europe, Asia, India plus the Middle East. Where it's located in the classroom is by the frogs and the cockatiel.

The food that it eats in the classroom is birdseed. The animals that eat it are hawks, falcons, racoons and opossums. When it is out in the wild the food it eats is berries, seeds, insects, and grain.

It takes 14-16 days for the eggs to hatch. They are fed by their parents for 15-17 days. It will take them 6 months to become adults and they can live up to 7 years.

If you have them as house pets then you should watch out for mice and cats!
