This is one of our gerbils.
The common name is gerbil (the great gerbil). Their habitat and geographic range is North China and they live in the ground. There classroom habitat is an an aquarium with cedar chips, a wheel, and a block. Their food is birdseed and dry dog food.
Their food in the wild is corn and food they find on the ground. Their predators are anyone bigger then they are.
They live in groups. They care for their young. What I thought was interesting was they are only pregnant for 24 to 25 days and they didn't get imported to the U.S. until the1950's.
