CORN SNAKE

The scientific name for the corn snake is Elaphe guttatus. The scientific name is derived from the Greek word ELAPHE meaning "deer skin" and the Latin word GUTTATUS meaning "spotted" or "speckled". The corn snakes have large and prominent blotches that run down their back.
Adult corn snakes in the wild eat baby mice and other small rodents. In the classroom, corn snakes are usually fed mice. The corn snake is the prey of other big snakes and birds of prey.
