The savannah monitor is an animal from South Africa, mostly found in the Sahara (hot areas). In our classroom, it lives in a heated tank with a log and wood chips. In the wild it eats rodents, birds, insects, and small reptiles. In the class room, it eats dog food. The Savannah monitor has a couple of predators like humans, large birds, and big mammals.
The Savannah monitor lives up to eleven years. It lives in groups as big as five. It is an egg layer and buries the eggs in soil.
All monitors are similar in shape. There are a wide variety of monitors.
