Eastern African Sand Boa

Eryx colubrinus

This sand boa likes to chill!

 

The sand boa's scientific name is Eryx colubrinus. Their geographic range is all over northeastern Africa. The classroom habitat should be in a ten to twenty gallon tank. The tank should have a bowl of water available.The habitat inside the class room has a steady temperature of eighty degrees Fahrenheit.

The sand boa isn't that big so bigger snakes could eat it. More enemies are birds of prey and mongooses. The sand boa can eat mice in the classroom. In the wild they might also eat baby birds and small lizards, and tiny fish.

Their life cycle is to hatch, grow, and possible mate. A healthy sand boa should live to be ten to fifteen years old. They mate once a year. When a female lays her eggs she leaves them to survive on there own. They have to find their own food. They tend to live alone unless there mating. Newborns in captivity should be fed every five days. Their diet can control there growth.
