The savannah monitor can be a very calm pet. It is a pet that is good around the house. Here is some information about the savannah monitor. The scientific name for the savannah monitor is Varanus exanthematicus.

Monitors live in dry desert land. The savannah monitor lives in the Sahara Desert of Africa. In the classroom it lives in a cage that is about 75 degrees and it eats wet dog food. The food in the wild is rodents, birds, insects, and small reptiles. It's only predators are birds that are bigger than it.

It's life cycle is that it hatches from an egg, it grows to it's maximum growth, it reproduces, then it dies. The life span for monitors is 11+ years. Monitors live alone, not in groups like some other animals. The monitor has two to three offspring and like most reptiles, the monitor does not rear it's young.

The savannah monitor has a very hard bite and a very hard tail. It can grow to be five feet long. They are not very fast runners. They chew there food very hard. It doesn't have really any fragrance.
