BLUE-TONGUED SKINK

''Tiliqua scincoides''

The mighty blue -ongued skink.

Their scientific name is Tiliqua scincoides. Their geographic range is Australia,Tasmania, and New Guinea. They live in large grassy plains. Nothing exists that says how they live and function in their natural environment. In the classroom, the Blue-Tongued Skink sits on mulch or pine needles.

While in the classroom they eat canned dog food, mealworms and crickets. But when they are in the wild they eat insects, small pieces of meat, berries, snails, and vegetables. Large snakes, humans, and big birds eat the Blue-Tongued Skink in the wild. The Blue-Tongued Skink gives live birth. Their life span is 20 to 30 years of age. They travel in groups when they are young. But when they get older they tend to separate from their families.

The Blue-Tongued Skink stays with the young for about a year. The Blue-Tongued Skink has a blue tongue and it has an orange eye. A few more interesting facts are that they have no real teeth but they can stil bite very hard and when they are disturbed they hiss and lick. They have a head shaped like an arrow and have soft skin compared to the monitor.
